Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is a hack and slash game developed by Omega Force and published by Koei Tecmo in Japan and Nintendo in internationally. The game is a spinoff to both The Legend of Zelda franchise and the Dynasty Warriors franchise, and is the second main title in the Hyrule Warriors series. It was released internationally on November 20, 2020, for the Nintendo Switch.
Age of Calamity serves as an alternative prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, retelling the events of the war against Calamity Ganon a century prior in the form of a new timeline. The game focuses on Link, Princess Zelda, and the Champions' efforts to defeat Ganon's armies and save Hyrule from ruin.
Following its release, Age of Calamity was met with generally positive reviews, and was commercially successful. The game was given praise for its mechanics, gameplay, and story, though particular criticism was drawn in regards to its performance on the Nintendo Switch, as well as aspects of its ending and elements of time travel. The title is currently the best-selling title in the Dynasty Warriors franchise. DLC is planned for the title beginning June2021, though a purchase bonus for the DLC will be distributed on May 28, 2021.
