God of War: Ragnarök is an action-adventurehack and slash game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on November 9, 2022. The title follows its predecessor's release in 2018, and focuses on the onset of Ragnarök following the events of its predecessor.
The sequel to God of War was first announced in September of 2020, during a video presentation on the PlayStation 5's reveal. A reveal of the franchise's omega (Ω) symbol, stylized to look like Jörmungandr and with Old Norse letters spelling out "Ragnarök" on its rim was accompanied by Kratos stating "The time draws near; you must prepare yourself", alongside a reveal of the game's 2021 release date.
While the title had been confirmed for a PlayStation 5 release, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan was unable to confirm whether or not the title would also be released on the PlayStation 4.
On June 2, 2021, it was announced that the title was being delayed to 2022. Additionally, it was confirmed that it will be playable on PlayStation 4.
On November 9, 2022, the title was finally released. A song featured in the game, "Blood Upon the Snow," was released as a single and features the artist Hozier.
